A new technology designed to bend the fifth dimension solves the problem of space as humanity migrates in mass to floating cities connected to the rapidly forming dyson sphere around Earth. 

Some of the earth is healed, the scars left upon by centuries of wear erased with terraforming, some swathes of territory left scorched and flooded. Tall skyscrapers not bombed down or destroyed cast their hollow skeletons upon the ground in eerily dark lengths.
